Dear Martin and Sarah,

Thank you so much for your kindness and faithfulness over the years.

We are delighted to share that the construction of the latrine project at Tegloma School, where Safiatu attends, is now complete, as outlined in this report.

The impact has been truly transformational, improving both education and public health within the school community. This achievement has only been possible because of your support, and we cannot thank you enough.

As you know, for many years, children at Tegloma School relied on unsafe and unhygienic toilet facilities. These conditions contributed to the spread of preventable diseases such as diarrhoea and cholera, often keeping children out of school. Girls were especially affected, unable to manage their periods with dignity or privacy.

Today, thanks to your kindness, that reality has changed.

What was once an environment marked by risk, illness and lost learning opportunities, is now a safe, healthy place where children can learn confidently and thrive. Your support is helping to restore dignity, protect health, and create a brighter future for every child at Tegloma School.

We are deeply thankful for your part in making this possible, and we hope you find great joy in reading this report, which shows just how truly transformative your support has been.

THE DIFFERENCE YOUR SUPPORT HAS MADE

The Tegloma latrine project has successfully delivered modern, inclusive sanitation facilities for schoolchildren. Two ventilated latrine blocks, one for boys and one for girls, have been constructed, and each has three cubicles. These facilities include:

across primary and secondary levels, improving health, increasing attendance, especially among girls, and restoring dignity and safety for all pupils.

Beyond the school, your support strengthened community sanitation practices, reduced open defecation, and fostered pride and ownership among residents, laying the foundation for a healthier, more resilient community.

Teachers, pupils, and parents have all expressed deep appreciation for the positive changes this project has brought to their school.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & SUSTAINABILITY

Thanks to your support, a clear sustainability framework has been put in place to ensure the long-term impact of the newly constructed newly constructed latrines.

  • The Parents Teacher Association (PTA) and School Health Club (SHC) have taken ownership of its maintenance and agreed to make monthly contributions dedicated to upkeep and repairs, guaranteeing resources for ongoing care.
  • Hygiene education is now embedded in the school curriculum, reinforcing positive behaviour among pupils and promoting responsible use of the facility. This ensures that improved sanitation benefits will endure for future generations.
  • Training sessions for PTA and SHC members are already underway, equipping them with the skills needed for proper maintenance, while students learn essential hygiene practices to sustain the project’s impact.

This plan for sustainability was developed through inclusive decision-making with parents, teachers, and local leaders. This participatory approach has fostered accountability, ownership, and pride within the community, ensuring the latrine is not only maintained but valued as a shared investment in health, dignity, and education.

LOOKING FORWARD

Responding to future challenges

A recent government inspection found the school’s borehole water supply to be unsafe, resulting in its closure. Consequently, pupils now have to fetch water from distant sources, disrupting learning and increasing health risks.

To address this, the community, together with World Vision, is working to secure additional funding for a new borehole that will deliver safe, reliable water directly to the school. This improvement will complement the existing sanitation facilities and help protect the health and well-being of the children.

We are confident that with continued support, we can address the water challenge and ensure a fully sustainable solution for students at Tegloma School.

THANK YOU

Your generosity has made a significant and lasting difference, transforming lives today and creating a brighter future for generations to come in the Tegloma community. We sincerely thank you, Martin and Sarah, for supporting the children of Tegloma School to continue learning, growing, and thriving with dignity and safety.
